POST 21/03 : SCIENTIFIC TECHNICIAN CONTROL GRADE A: AQUACULTURE

SALARY : R298 749 per annum (All inclusive remuneration package)

REQUIREMENTS : A National diploma or Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree in Natural Sciences with six (6)
years post-qualification experience in aquaculture or aquarium management.
Registration (or proof of your application for registration) with the South African
Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Certified Natural
Scientist. Knowledge of the Marine Living Resources Act, 1998 (Act 18 of 1998).
Knowledge of and experience in water quality, recirculation systems, basic
plumbing and electrical services. Reasonable knowledge of aquaculture and the
management thereof. Experience in the handling, collecting and husbandry of
marine animals. Good interpersonal, supervisory, administration, communication,
decision making, problem solving and organising skills are essential. Computer
skills in MS Office software. A valid driver’s licence.
DUTIES : The incumbent will be responsible to provide support and assistance in the
management of the Marine Research Facility in Sea Point. Maintain electro-
mechanical equipment and attend breakdowns at all hours. Assist with
experiments and research projects. Manage water and air supply to the facility.
Supervise staff. Undertake administration activities within the Directorate.
