ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, TOURISM AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT
SENIOR TOWN  PLANNER: SPATIAL PLANNING
Salary:   R256 484 .06 – R276 278 .56 per annum (Excluding all benefits)

Requirements:

  • A recognized degree in town and regional planning 
  • At least 4 years’ experience in  a  spatial  planning  environment  
  • Registration  or  eligible  for  registration  as  a  Professional Planner with the South African Council for Planners 
  • Knowledge of  processes, government policy and  regulatory  frameworks  governing  spatial  planning is  essential  as  is experience  of  having taken a significant role in the formulation of spatial planning related projects
  • Understanding of the need for practical, tangible and investment friendly spatial planning interventions in the context of the developmental challenges facing both urban and rural areas in South Africa 
  • The ability and willingness to initiate and lead spatial planning related projects and interventions in-house as opposed to the reliance on consultants 
  • The ability to lead and facilitate consultation processes required in the spatial planning environment 
  • Knowledge of land use management 
  • Knowledge of GIS will be an advantage 
  • Computer Literacy 
  • A valid code EB driver’s license is essential 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.  
Knowledge:

  • Ability initiate, facilitate and lead spatial planning projects and interventions in-house 
  • Ability to prepare high-level presentations for various consultative processes. 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Review of the spatial development framework 
  • Review of existing precinct and local area plans 
  • Initiate, lead and formulate spatial planning projects for areas that need spatial planning interventions 
  • Formulate funding proposals for spatial planning projects development  and  implementation  of  spatial  planning  policies  &  strategy  formulation  
  • Management,  monitoring  and  evaluation  of  spatial  planning  projects  
  • Assessment  of development  applications  from  a  spatial  planning  perspective  
  • Monitoring,  compilation  and analysis of data related to spatial planning 
  • Provide technical information and engage in long term planning for the HCM 
  • Undertake community and advocacy planning 
  • Prepares comments and responses on proposed policies, projects and procedures related to spatial planning issues affecting the Municipal area 
  • Participation in development control and the preparation of IDP`s and development planning procedures • Ensuring compliance with planning legislation.
