In 2013 alone, EOH created over 1,500 job opportunities for the youth through this initiative. Working together with its customers, business partners, and government, EOH has set itself a target to create 28 000 jobs by 2016. EOH believes that South Africa is short of skills, rather than short of jobs.
The Rockefeller Foundation has announced a R10 million grant to EOH to spur job creation in the ICT sector for South Africa’s disadvantaged youth. Together they are going to employ youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who have completed high school but are still unable to get a job.
The grant will enable EOH to build on the success of the Youth Job Creation Initiative, and will place 1,750 unemployed youth in a Work Readiness Programme in 2014. The youth will combine theory training with practical placement of the learner at EOH partners or clients, enabling the learners to receive work experience and an increased chance to get employment. Furthermore, the grant will ensure that more of the EOH partners will get involved in the Youth Job Creation Initiative.
