The role:
The Chief Ventilation Engineer is responsible for managing and coordinating the overall Ventilation and Refrigeration strategy for operations, includes mines, projects and JV's as applicable, as well as providing the Mine with specialist Ventilation and Refrigeration services and expertise, to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Setting of mine / site specific ventilation standards. 
Ensure that environment conditions are designed to be safe and a system for monitoring is in place – Act 50 of 1991 Reg 2.16., including ventilation and refrigeration engineering systems.
Establish system to understand and mitigate occupational and ergonomic hazards MHSA Sect 12. Ensure and assure legal compliance as well as a safe and healthy work environment, to ensure minimized pure risk, litigation exposure and adverse publicity
Technical work responsibilities:
·         Audit individual shafts to ensure compliance to Mine Health & Safety Act, Group Guidelines and Mine Standards
·         Ventilation engineering design model-up and reviews of design at the shaft to ensure appropriate working conditions at the mining faces/operational areas.
·         Setting of mine/site specific standards.
·         Ventilation Engineering modelling and designs
Core Work Outputs:
·         The core work outputs of the role are to ensure that:
·         ·Ensure that legal requirements, group standards and policies are adhered to.
·         Anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control those conditions that may arise in or from the workplace, which may cause illness or adverse health effects to persons
·         Design, implement and manage total effective long term Ventilation and Refrigeration strategies and systems.
·         Manage risk assessment and auditing processes.
·         Report and advise on ventilation  findings and trends
·         Participate in projects and the effective management thereof
·         Manage budget and cost containment
·         Management of resources and assets
·         Responsible for long term LoL ventilation planning (in access of 5 years)
·         Liaison with Occupational Hygienists and medical staff regarding state of working conditions on the operation
·         Monitoring of conditions to ensure heath of employees and minimise potential occupational heath claims against the company
·         Produce ad-hoc and mandatory quarterly and annual occupational hygiene reports
·         Implement occupational hygiene systems.  Constantly review policies, procedures, guidelines, and code of practices to meet the needs of the Mine
·         Produce occupational exposure histories and link occupational hygiene measurements to medical surveillance records
·         Advise on occupational hygiene training, education, awareness and development
Required abilities:
·         Legal requirement: Chamber of Mines (COM) Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
·         Training, via courses, formal training or practical experience in:
·         Occupational Health legislation
·         Management system formulation and implementation
·         Safety, Health and Environmental integration
·         Hazard identification and risk assessment
·         Extensive computer literacy in MS Office, SAP,
·         Palladium and other specialised technical programs (VUMA)
·         Practical experience of at least 10 years + in the Ventilation field and at least 5 years as Manager Ventilation
·         Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of management  systems and database formulation
·         Member of Mine Ventilation Society of South
·         Sound knowledge pertaining to people management
·         Working knowledge of specialist Ventilation and Refrigeration computer simulation programs  
Physical Requirements:
·         Certificate of Fitness
·         Fit for movement underground

DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:
Custodianship, maintenance, and implementation of the Supply Chain policies and procedures
·         Management of Supply Chain performance, including establishment of appropriate KPI's, target setting, measurement, reporting and key decision making related to performance
·         Management of the Preferential Procurement function, facilitating progress towards achieving the objectives of the Mining Charter, DTI Codes of Good Practice, and internally established targets for localised supplier spend. A key aspect is also supplier development and contributing towards sustainable supply chain
·         Management of Business Processes and Intelligence for Supply Chain, ensuring that Spend analysis is accurate and relevant to the pursuit of the goals set for Supply Chain, as well as the appropriate design, improvement and documentation of relevant business processes
·         Management of the MDM function, comprising Stock coding and Vendor management
·         Overseeing all Supply Chain financial planning and cost budget
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Manage the group Supply Chain budget and financial control, including inter-company re-charges
·         Supply chain financial planning takes places timeously and is supported across De Beers GOC
·         Engagement of supply chain managers to complete supply chain financial planning and target setting (all financial elements of the scorecards and benefits tracking maintained)
·         Budgeting for supply chain completed and tracked
·         Budget and financials regularly reviewed and reported
·         Oversees performance reporting e.g. financial elements of the balance scorecard (reliability and compliance of supply chain benefits reporting)
·         Works with Finance and Audit to ensure reliable reporting and risk management
·         Coordinates the Supply Chain audit planning process, provides input and supports the execution of audits to ensure the successful close-out of findings
Performs business process improvement evaluations and analysis through conducting / facilitating meetings with stakeholders to understand business process improvement needs and prioritizes processes in need of change

·         Gains support from stakeholders for business process analysis
·         Develops business process evaluation & improvement initiatives
·         Provides input on designing a continuous business process review and improvement evaluation process and documents procedures
·         Develops an approach to follow in supporting the formulation and the implementation of business strategies and initiatives for specific SC functions that will address priority issues
·         Actively participates at a Supply Chain user forum, incorporating multi-disciplinary functions from across De Beers and Supply Chain, sharing best practice business process improvement solutions
·         Contributes toward and implements co-coordinated plans and strategies for the BP&I team to improve Supply Chain Management 's effectiveness and efficiency as well as work directly with business process owners on defining and implementing business process improvement initiatives
·         Keeps abreast of document changes in requirements, legislation, benchmarks as well as Supply Chain practice that impact on Business Intelligence needs as well as provides guidance to stakeholders in the identification, design, development, and implementation of innovative and leading supply chain business intelligence methodologies and harvesting approaches
